Mini excavator track tensioner: identify the assembly

Qisheng Machinery

Identify a mini excavator track tensioner from the machine reference and the installed assembly before ordering parts. An excavator track adjuster quotation may cover a complete track tensioner assembly or an individual cylinder or spring component. Ask the supplier to state what the proposed reference includes, and keep tension measurement separate from replacement-part identification.

Simplified track tensioning assembly with grease-adjusting cylinder, recoil spring and connection
Simplified grease-cylinder and recoil-spring concept. 1: adjustment-cylinder connection. 2: recoil spring. 3: connection towards the idler arrangement. Component layout varies; this is not an installation drawing or a disassembly sequence.

What the tensioner does

In a grease-adjusted arrangement, the adjustment cylinder changes the position of the idler assembly. A recoil spring accommodates changes in loading within the intended design. These are related functions, but adding grease does not establish that a worn wheel, a damaged spring or the connecting parts are serviceable.

Use the track-tension measurement guide for the measurement task. Its machine-specific reference points and conditions remain necessary even when a replacement tensioning assembly is being considered.

Check the names against the supply scope

Quoted item What to confirm
Complete track adjuster or tensioner Which cylinder, recoil spring, yoke and connecting parts are included.
Adjustment cylinder Exact reference, travel and connection geometry; relationship to the existing assembly.
Recoil spring component Manufacturer-approved component assignment and the required specialist repair arrangement.
Idler package Whether the guide wheel and its support are included, or must be identified separately.

Parts terminology varies between catalogues. Compare the drawing and supplied-component list, rather than treating “track adjuster”, “recoil spring” and “complete tensioner” as proof that two quotations contain the same items.

Keep recurring adjustment problems visible

Record the tension measurement, machine hours, date and what happened after the previous adjustment. Include accessible photographs of any damaged or leaking area. Repeated loss of tension needs investigation; repeated grease addition can conceal the history without identifying the fault.

The HSE track-tensioning alert describes the risk from retained pressure and damaged grease connections. A connection or component ejected under pressure should not be refitted for another attempt. Preserve the incident details and obtain competent assessment of the assembly and replacement connections.

Do not dismantle the spring assembly or alter pressure-control settings to identify a part. Have the service provider work to the actual machine instructions. Photographs and machine records should be collected without exposing anyone to unsupported equipment or a pressurised connection.

Send enough information for a parts match

Provide the QS model and serial plate, any readable assembly number, the track arrangement and the idler and mounting details. If a service provider has already removed the assembly safely, include their photographs and measurements against a drawing.

State whether the enquiry concerns identification, a replacement quotation or an existing failure. Give the quantity and delivery country. Ask for confirmation of assembly contents, connection details and any related components that require assessment before installation.

Ask about the correct tensioning assembly

For a Qisheng-supplied machine, send the identification records and the service finding. Qisheng can review the request against the supplied machine configuration and confirm the proposed parts and availability. Keep the fitter’s diagnosis with the enquiry so the quotation addresses the required assembly. Send the identification request
